Recycle EMPTY aerosol cans in the councils can banks or kerbside collection scheme, but please remember-
Do NOT squash aerosols.

B - Batteries (Car and Domestic)
Try to use rechargeable batteries, this will help the environment and could save you money. Car batteries can be taken to collection points at the Rutland County Council Civic Amenity Sites.

C - Cardboard
Cardboard can be recycled through your kersbide collection bin. Alternatively, facilities are also available at various recycling sites around the county.

D - Disposable items
These are things that are not able to be recycled easily, so please try to avoid using them.

E - Envelopes
To recycle, remove any plastic windows and stamps and recycle envelopes as paper.

F - Foil
Clean aluminium packaging eg.takeaway containers, pie cases, cooking foil, can be recycled at various sites around the county.

G - Garden waste
By starting a compost heap you will help to cut down on the amount of waste being disposed of to landfill and you may be able to opt out of the green bin collection. Those who are unable to compost can dispose of rubbish through the green bin recycling collection.

H - Household Waste Recycling Centres
There are two Civic Amenity sites in Rutland where a wide range of household waste can be taken for recycling.

I - Ice cream containers
A useful item to reuse around the home if possible.

J - Junk mail
Reduce the amount of junk mail received by registering with MPS ( Mail Preference Service) who will remove your name from up to 95% of direct mail lists. Tel 0845 703 4599

K - Kitchen towels (paper)
These can be composted in your compost heap instead of throwing them away.

L - Landfill
Household waste is deposited in landfill sites, which are basically large holes in the ground. The UK is fast running out of landfill space and alternative means of managing waste are starting to be used. This includes more recycling...

M - Magazines
These could be reused by donating them to local surgeries, hairdressers, old people's homes or recycled by using the kerbside recycling scheme provided by Rutland County Council.

N - Newspaper's magazines & junk mail
Can be donated to local playgroups / schools for art work, or recycled through the Rutland County Council kerbside recycling scheme.

O - Oil
It is illegal to dispose of engine oil down the drain. Oil contains many potential pollutants which, if they find their way into water courses, could be very damaging. Put it into a clean container and take it to one of the two Civic Amenity sites in Rutland.

P - Paper
Newspapers and magazines make up about 13% of your weekly household waste. These could be easily recycled through paper banks or the kerbside collection scheme.

Q - Quilts
Could be sold to second hand shops. They could also be donated to charities for reuse by people in need.

R - Recycling
Recycling is basically turning something you no longer need into something that has a use to you.

S - Shoes
These can be put into your local textile bank, please remember to tie the shoes together.

T - Textiles
All waste textiles such as curtains, clothes, sheets and wool can be taken to charity shops or placed into textile recycling banks in Rutland.

W - Waste minimisation
Reducing the amount of waste we throw away each day and choosing products with little or no packaging will help to slim our bins.

Y - Yoghurt pots
Often needed by playgroups and schools.

Z - Zips
These can be reused by donating them to charity shops and second hand shops.
