It is more important then reusing and recycling because by reducing our waste we actually cut down on the amount of waste that enters our homes in the first place. Waste reduction conserves resources and saves money as well as landfill space

There are many ways that you can reduce the amount of waste in your bin.

• Re-use carrier bags and boxes

• Avoid buying products with excessive layers of packaging

• Find out if there is a more durable, longer lasting alternative to the product you want to buy. e.g. a reusable shopping bag.

• Reduce the amount of junk mail received by registering with MPS ( Mail Preference Service) who will remove your name from up to 95% of direct mail lists. Tel 0845 703 4599 Email mps@dma.org.uk

• Compost your veegetable peelings along with your grass cuttings etc fomr the garden. Reduced rate composters area available to all Rutland residents at a special price of £5 for a 220 litre and £10 for a 330 litre composter.
