New Bin Lorry for Rural Rounds
Published:Wednesday 7 October 2009The new split-bodied vehicle hits the streets this week (w/c 5/10/09) and is not only designed to tackle the tight roads of Rutland’s rural locations, but the new slim line bin lorry can also collect garden waste and recycling at the same time, by having two separate compartments with recycling on one side and garden waste on the other. Portfolio Holder for Regulatory Services, Councillor Janine Rodger explains how it works: “This is a great addition to the service that will ensure that our farms and lodges only have to be visited by one refuse vehicle on each collection day. It will also reduce use of fuel and consequently reduce emissions, contributing to a 'greener Rutland'. There are two completely separate compartments to load waste into, and therefore the refuse collectors can collect two different waste streams simultaneously with no contamination of the waste, i.e. for garden waste from green bins in one side, and recycling from grey bins in the other. The vehicle really is a step forward for Rutland’s waste collection service, and another example of how Cory Environmental and the Council are working together to find methods to improve collections”. These rounds include farms and lodges as well as the villages of Normanton, Gunthorpe, Pilton, Ayston, and Tolethorpe. The new vehicle will not be used on the standard rounds as the larger collection vehicles are more appropriate due to the volume of waste that they can collect. Residents are also thanked for their constant efforts to recycle and are reminded to have their bins out by 7am for collection, bin lids must be fully closed, and bins should be returned to the property as soon as possible after collection so as not to block pavements. | ||
