RAF Cottesmore Recycling
Published:Thursday 6 March 2008Around 900 bins (two per household) were delivered to RAF Cottesmore during January and four collections of recycling and two collections of garden waste have taken place to date. These collections have seen 16.2 tonnes of recycling and garden waste collected which would previously have been sent to landfill. Director of Community Services, Phil Trow says, 'We are absolutely delighted with the first set of results we've had back from RAF Cottesmore which show a large proportion of residents are recycling on a regular basis. The response has been superb and we are also pleased that the vast majority of people have a really good grasp of what the scheme involves from reading our leaflets and visiting the website. The council is as confident as it can be that this success rate will be echoed across the county from 31 March 08'. Mr. Trow added, 'If the rest of the county follows a similar pattern as RAF Cottesmore, the kerbside recycling rate for Rutland will increase to somewhere in excess of 35%. That is already 10% higher than the current figure and does not take into account the increase in garden waste that the council expects to 'recycle' during the summer months when collections become more regular, and also the inclusion of CA and recycling sites across the county'. The early introduction was designed to enable Rutland County Council to thoroughly test communication and collection of the new waste and recycling service before introduction to the remaining 14,000 homes. Squadron Leader Broome says 'RAF Cottesmore was delighted to conduct an early introduction of the new recycling service for Rutland County Council and clearly the success is good news before the project is rolled out to the wider community in Rutland'. If you have a question about the new recycling scheme or you would like to notify Rutland County Council that you do not require a green garden bin, then please visit the dedicated recycling website which can be found at www.recycle4rutland.org.uk, email recycling@rutland.gov.uk or telephone 01572 722 577. | ||
