Final Bin Deliveries
Published:Wednesday 2 April 2008Due to the difficulty in storing 30,000 wheeled bins, Rutland County Council had to take delivery of the new bins in batches and unfortunately the breakdown occurred as the last order was being produced. However, Rutland County Council is pleased to announce that this breakdown was fixed by engineers on Tuesday 1st April, manufacturing started shortly after, and the bins arrived in Rutland at 7.30am on Wednesday (2nd) morning. Delivery to properties in Oakham and Seaton started straight away and should be completed within the same day. A few minor issues are still outstanding (i.e. collecting excess bins, delivering extra green bins paid for, changing bins) and this work will continue during the next couple of weeks. Councillor Janine Rodger, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, commented: 'It's disappointing that we had this late hiccup as overall the introduction of kerbside recycling has gone really well. Collection crews have encountered far fewer problems than expected during the first couple of days and although exact figures will not be available for at least a month, they are reporting a high level of participation in the new recycling and garden waste collections'. Councillor Rodger also added, 'I would like to thank residents for clearly taking the time to carefully read the information leaflet that was sent out with the new bins and as this has meant that most people got it right first time. We’ve had a small number of residents’ who’ve made genuine mistakes, and they have been informed of this, but that is only to be expected with a scheme of this size. I’d also like to take this opportunity to remind people that in some areas, collection days have changed'. Now that the new system is underway, residents should automatically start using the new black bin for landfill waste, the new grey bin for recycling and the existing green bin transfers use to a garden waste bin. Those residents who are currently on the trial recycling scheme in Oakham South East have received two new bins (a black landfill bin, the same size as in the rest of the county, and a grey recycling bin). Residents in this area will continue to use their green bins for garden waste. Rutland County Council is once again drawing residents’ attention to a number of key points that have been published to help improve understanding of the new kerbside recycling system: * GREY bin is for recycling, GREEN for garden waste and BLACK for landfill * Items that can be recycled are paper, cardboard, glass, plastic bottles, tins and cans * Place all recycling loose in the GREY recycling bin (please do not bag it up) * Remember to put your bin out by 7am on your collection day * MOST collection days have changed – please check your calendar * Do not overfill your bin; bins with lids not fully closed will not be emptied. * Read your information booklet and collection calendar carefully – it tells you everything you need to know about the new refuse and recycling collection scheme * Everybody in Rutland should now have their new bins. If you think you have been missed out then please get in touch with Rutland County Council immediately. For more information please visit www.recycle4rutland.org.uk | ||
