Bulky Waste Collections

Published:Thursday 28 May 2009

Sofa PictureRutland County Council is advising residents about changes to the way bulky waste collections will be handled in future.

From Monday 1 June 2009, all residents (except those who receive housing or council tax benefit) pay a flat rate of just £10 to have up to four items (in one collection) collected from their doorstep.

This represents a change from the current system which sees residents (not receiving a pension or benefit) paying £35.25 for up to 2 bulky waste items, and £70.50 for 3 - 4 items.

Councillor Janine Rodger says, “Councillors have decided that the new flat rate of £10 for all residents (except those receiving housing or council tax benefit) is a much fairer way of operating our bulky waste collections. This charge allows residents to have four items collected from their doorstep at any one time and in my mind represents extremely good value for money. For a full list of items included in the bulky waste scheme, please contact the council or visit the website”.

Councillor Rodger added, “Anybody who wants to request a bulky waste collection should contact Rutland County Council on 01572 722 577. I would also like to take this opportunity to remind residents that the Melton Furniture Project (which also collects in Rutland) will also collect unwanted furniture and donate it to a good home”.
