New Co-op Recycling

Picture of Co Op Recycling SiteRutland's most popular recycling site is reopening this week after a major fire caused it to be removed during 2008.

The recycling banks located in the Co-op car park in Oakham have historically been the most visited of the 18 recycling sites around the county.

Following the major fire that destroyed the supermarket store in July 2008, the recycling banks were removed to enable the rebuild of the store to get underway.

Portfolio Holder Cllr Janine Rodger says “I am sure the reopening of this much used facility will be welcomed by our residents, and further assist us in increasing our contribution to sustaining the environment’.

Co-op Store Manager Dave Brown says “We are very happy that recycling facilities are returning to the store, the site was always very popular with our customers”

Recycling from the Co-op site will contribute significantly to the amount of recycling collected in Rutland and therefore diverted from landfill.

Materials that can be brought to the Co-op recycling site include glass, paper, card, cans, textiles, and tetrapak drink cartons.

There is also a bank for books which will be taken for re-use by the British Heart Foundation.

Book banks have also been introduced to the Civic Amenity sites at Cottesmore and North Luffenham, and recycling sites at Uppingham Community College, North Street East car park in Uppingham, and St Nicholas Primary School in Cottesmore.
